I see a tear in her eye;
a conflict of pride and pain.
She wipes the memories dry
for nothing gold can remain
and as hard as she may try,
nothing can stay the same:
today, she must say goodbye.
Their time beyond nature's span
yet she longs to hug him tight.
Her little boy is now a man
yet tears have blinded her sight.
If only growth had a ban
her shoulders would feel so light...
if only time never ran.
He sees her heart fall like snow
and his feels a guilty grime,
and yet he knows not what for
as not man can rewind time.
He cannot help but grow.
He realises his age is no crime
and that she must learn to love and let go.
His mother must still hold joy
for her son is flying free
and though the way he departs must annoy,
he is sure that she would agree
that, although she can no longer buy his favourite toy
or read to him as he sits on her knee,
he will always be her boy.
