The Lake and the River

Beyond the frozen lake there lies a roaring river free.
Not knowing that cold memories would freeze my heart to stone.
I yearned to forget the world and find warmth beneath the tree
yet the cold reality is I’ll always be alone.

I took a journey to find my home but found myself lost,
straying the path of innocence into a world of lust
and here a boy became a man at a sickening cost;
such misleading meant that I could never again trust.

So, yet again, I tried to find somewhere that I belong,
dedicating myself to a cause of little concern.
I killed, thinking it would make me feel powerful and strong;
the innocence that I once had could now never return.

It was here where I found family, but never found faith
with a revolting revelation that left my dreams in vain.
I took on a new life and left my old existence a wraith
in the hope that one day I will learn to love again.
