The Danger in Nostalgia

Nostalgia is a disease
which rots all hope of a future
by blinding you with the past.

You see the mustards as gold,
the sounds of the street as songs
and the puddles as oceans.

The bar has been set too high
and now all comparisons
will seem insubstantial and weak.

I am content with how I am
but there is a huge difference
with content and happiness.

Now that I've noticed the change
it is hard to ignore my thoughts
and how they miss what has been.

I wish I had amnesia
so I could forget how joy felt
and make a future irrelative.
