Balancing the Scales

The gauge is low,
the scales are weightless,
all effort pointless,
the penury grows.

But do my scales need weight
when happy with air?
Why should I care
for things grandious and great?

I do not want the scales to tip
when the balance holds exact.
For all my life I have longed and lacked,
so I will not let this precision slip.

And so I will give and gain
in equal amounts
so it all accounts
to the balance staying the same.
