The Crossroads of Life and Death (An Interlude)

Devastation to my left
and peace to my right;
to be broken or to break on through?
On either side valleys loom
with darkness that fill my heart with doom.
In my fear I know what to do,
to leave devastation out of sight
and defend the planet from counter-theft,
yet as I walk right it bends away
back to the left, back into the grey.
In this narrow valley I cannot stray;
for Death seems to be the only way.
