Leaking Memories

I have lost something I used to hold dear to me
"But it can't fall off the face of the Earth!" you say.
I have tried, in vain, to retain my memory
but with each gentle drip of reminiscing they seep away.

I feel a vague remembrance, like a sudden waking from dreams,
they slip through my fingers, like trying to hold liquid,
but whats starts as a gentle trickle burst into raging streams
until all memory becomes confused and twisted.

Stay with me, or all my years have been futile,
just a collection of light to slip into the shade.
Oh false friend of fancy, how you falsely beguile:
must all that I have done and all that I have loved fade?
